8th-grade science students are experimenting with thermal energy. Their task? To keep a cup of hot water hot…for as long as possible! Using different materials, students are designing a cup to reduce the transfer of thermal energy and keep their water temperature up!

Who doesn’t love a good BINGO game? Westlake families sure do! Thanks to WAVE for hosting BINGO Night Friday night. A great time was had by all!

A quick tour of just a couple Pebblewood classrooms tell the story of 21st Century learning and give us a glimpse at the skills our students will carry into their future. All within 10 minutes, I watched 6th graders learn to build Google Forms to help them crowdsource data, and just next door in 7th Grade, students were building Google Sites as a place to platform their thoughts.

Mrs. Grimaldi ran interactive learning structures (a responsive classroom technique) in her Spanish class this week.  Her students were doing the ILS “Inside/Outside Circles” as they practiced their oral language skills in Spanish class.

For the Whole School

We are proud to work with our partners from our WAVE Parent Team, and this is an opportunity for you to join this effort. WAVE has a series of efforts and events throughout the year, that are run by small committees. Please  CLICK HERE  and volunteer to join a committee. You’ll be glad you did!

After School Clubs: The deadline to volunteer to lead an After School Club is this Friday, September 16th.  We have several opening to fill at both campuses, so if you have considered leading a club, register HERE and we will help you work out the details. Our after school Clubs program will launch the week of October 10th and conclude during the week of November 14th. We need creative parents like you to volunteer to run an afterschool club, once a week, for ten or more students. Think about something you and your student love to do together, and turn it into a club: coloring, origami, chess club, soccer etc the possibilities are endless! Teach your talent, sport, or craft one hour per week, once a week, for six weeks! That’s it! BASE will provide training before the clubs begin to help you share your talents with our Explorers.

Parents go to School Night: Families, we believe in creating lifelong learners and Parents Go to School Night is an opportunity for all of our parents to commit to this mission. This annual event is designed by our teachers to help our parents grow and learn in ways that will help our students grow and learn as well! Come for an evening of professional, conference-style breakout sessions lead by our teaching staff. We’ll have breakout sessions focused on reading, math, technology and more. Click here to take a look at the schedule.

Chili Cook Off: Our 4th Annual Chili Cook Off is coming up on Thursday, September 22nd at 6pm. Our 5th-8th grade classes will be going head-to-head for the title of “Westlake’s Greatest Chili”.
