A big shout out and thank you to all of the staff and families who participated in this year’s outreach. We had a booth at Walmart last Saturday and Sunday and held an application assistance night on the Pebblewood campus. These efforts yielded many new applications and assisted several families to apply to become a part of our school. outreach2
manifest In 8th Grade History, Vasa Lokteff and Caroline Gaea’s students have been working on a PBL project answering this essential question. How justifiable was US expansion in the 1800s?” The students used Google Maps to plot their way across the United States learning about the Manifest Destiny.  Students designed maps, adding layers, creating fact-based plots, and adding pictures. Students demonstrated so many skills, both tech and research based, to create this project.
Third-grade students are working on an animal brochure project.  Students were giving feedback on the brochure through comments on the google doc.  Students were also using Google Define to create their glossary!  There were some pretty impressive work products being generated by these 3rd-grade explorers.  Way to go, 3rd grade! 3rd grade 2
Screen Shot 2016-01-29 at 2.04.44 PM Art meets PE in a PBL project called Obesity in a Bottle. Students used their knowledge they gained in PE regarding nutrition to create spoof cereal box art projects in art class. Great job Mr. Poseley and Ms. Woodard collaborating on this amazing project!
This week our staff participated in an Epi-Pen refresher course. The Epi-Pen course reviewed what to look for in an allergic reaction and how to properly administer the Epi-Pen. This training is conducted every year on campus as a part of our commitment to student safety. epi pen

For Del Paso

Get in, Eat, Vamonos Update:  Our cafeteria campaign is in it’s 3rd week and it’s already yielding some significant results. A first-grade teacher reported that more of her students are leaving the cafeteria with their lunches finished.  Students have been sharing that the cafeteria seems quieter and calmer.  Our 2nd-grade students have been doing an excellent job of making sure that their “Voices Match the Music”.  All in all, our students and staff have been doing an incredible job with the campaign to help make the cafeteria a safer, calmer, and happier place to eat.

Walking Wednesday and Footloose Friday:  Westlake is very proud of the number of walkers there are on the Del Paso Campus walking days.  As with everything we do, student safety is our priority.  In order to ensure student safety, please do not leave your student unattended in the Walgreens parking lot before the walking group leaves at 8:00 AM. Students in the parking lot prior to the walk are not supervised by school staff.  Please do not leave unattended Explorers in the parking lot before 8:00 AM.

Explorers, Don’t Miss Your Flight: This week on campus we rolled a positive behavior campaign that focuses on transitions between class to class during the school day.  You might want to ask your student about “Time flies” and “Movement matters”.

On Time to School: The school day begins promptly at 7:45 AM.  Making sure your child is on time to school will help set your child up for success.  Students can be dropped off as early as 7:15 AM to eat breakfast and will be released to the blacktop at 7:30 AM.  Thank you for making every effort to have your child on time to school.
