Celebrations:

Our Kindergarten students have been learning about the work and life of Martin Luther King Jr. this week.  They have taken their learning to a new level by applying the idea of equality and respect for everyone in their classrooms.  Screen Shot 2016-01-17 at 9.41.34 AM
Screen Shot 2016-01-17 at 9.34.10 AM Our amazing student leadership class led our Pebblewood students in a rally on Friday! Students competed in grade-level competitions. The energy in the room could be felt everywhere! Thank you to Mr. Poseley and his leadership class for organizing and executing a wonderful school culture event!
One of the core values at Westlake Charter School is stewardship. This week, one of our students was recognized by NP3 principal, Tom Rutten, for his act of stewardship in our cafeteria.  Great work, Aidan!  Screen Shot 2016-01-17 at 9.37.35 AM
Screen Shot 2016-01-17 at 9.37.55 AM The Del Paso Campus Get In, Eat, Vamonos campaign launched this week!  Students were able to get into the cafeteria more quickly, and this equaled more eating time.  Students also reported a quieter cafeteria.
Sarah Gately, middle school math and science teacher,  has really taken it upon herself to venture into our McGraw Hill math program.  She loves to try different components of the program and to share her findings with her math team.  Just this week in her classroom, we saw students working on inquiry labs and career projects! Mrs. Gately has developed amazing PBL projects for her students this year! Way to demonstrate the pillar, Teachers as Designers!  Screen Shot 2016-01-17 at 9.39.41 AM
Screen Shot 2016-01-17 at 9.37.43 AM A delayed shout out to Elena Thrower and Jinny Beaton for their work with our fourth-grade students and their after school book club.  Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication to making this possible for the 4th graders!

Weather Reminder:  Please have your student come to school prepared for the weather.  While we will have indoor recess if there is rainy weather, students may still be caught in the rain during a transition.  Students should have a hood and appropriate footwear for wet weather.  Also, the office provides changes of clothes for students who get muddy, and this has depleted our clothes closet.  Any donations of uniforms are appreciated.

Progress Reports: Progress reports will come home this Friday, January 22nd.  Students will bring home a large white envelope with a detailed printout from Infinite Campus for each class.  Please take the time to review your student’s progress with them and make goals for the remainder of the trimester.  Please return the progress report cover sheet and envelope both signed to Advisory/homeroom teachers by Tuesday, January 26th.   Classes switch: Students in 6-8th grade will be switching their electives and specialty classes on Monday, January 25th. Geography Bee Preliminary Round: Students in grades 5-8 that are participating in the preliminary round of the Geography Bee should have signed up through their teacher and should be in attendance on Wednesday from 12:30-1:30 PM in Mrs. Sutton’s room.
