Sunday – August 9, 2015

Good Evening Explorer Families,

Families, this has been a truly exciting last week of summer for us. We would like to thank the hundreds of families that made it out to our New Family Orientation at Del Paso and our Orientation at Pebblewood. Finally, we have to thank the hundreds of families who attended our amazing BBQ yesterday put on byFullSizeRender 2 our WAVE parent organization. Families, it is truly the bond between school and home that makes Westlake so special.

Well, this is it, your final few days before school begins. We have a lot of information that we are attaching to the Sunday night email, so please take a moment to look over our pick up and drop off times, our reminder about uniforms, information about our BASE program, the importance of attendance and our reminder to mark your calendar with important dates coming up.

Welcome Back Packets
Families, our Welcome Back Packets were mailed out last week, one should have arrived in your mailbox by now. Please bring the completed packet to our Meet The Teacher event on the 11th and turn in all the completed forms to your student’s teacher in the original envelope. If you didn’t receive your Welcome Back Packet please click here to let us know and update your mailing address with our office.

TDap Immunization
First we have a very important message for our 7th & 8th grade families: All students entering our school in 7th grade or higher need to have a tDap immunization record on file – According to our records only 28 of our incoming 7th grade student have turned in proof of receiving their Tdap booster shot. If you haven’t already, please make sure you get those shots taken care of before Wednesday morning. Students without this important booster shot cannot be admitted to class. If you already have updated shot records, you are welcome to email them to [email protected] or fax them our Pebblewood office at (916) 928-0337.

Class Lists & Meet the Teacher
We almost have class lists ready for posting! We will be posting the lists on both campus and on our website first thing Tuesday morning so that everyone is prepared for our Meet the Teacher event on Tuesday from 2:30 to 3:30 on our Pebblewood Campus and from 3:00 to 4:00 on our Del Paso Campus – We hope to see you there!

Walking Wednesday
Now, for those families who will be dropping off at the Del Paso Campus on the first day of school, we’d like to remind you that Wednesday is a Walking Wednesday. We’ll all be parking in the Walgreens parking lot by 7:50AM and following our principal, Mrs. Battin, at 8:00AM down the sidewalk and onto campus for the first day of school! Come on out and join the parade. Since Wednesday is our first Walking Wednesday, try to show up just a little early to get your punch card and trip scanner. Walking Wednesday is a great way to get some volunteer hours, as well. See our email for more info:

      • Volunteers needed email: [email protected]
      • Hours can be used towards your parent volunteer hours

Attendance
Speaking of dropping your students off for school, I would like to just take a moment to say how important it is that your family makes school attendance the highest priority. As I look at the work your teachers are putting in to prepare for the year, I can’t imagine wanting to miss a single day of it, so please, schedule appointments, trips and events, as best you can, to fall outside of school time. Attendance is important to your student, important to their classroom community and important to our school.
