Good Evening Explorer Families,
I hope that you have had an amazing summer! I am thrilled about serving as Principal on our Pebblewood Campus during the 2015-2016 school year. It is a privilege to serve in this role with such a remarkable community filled with passionate and talented educators and dedicated families. I look forward to partnering with you this year in your child’s education! Westlake Charter has such a dedicated team that is excited to start this school year with you and your family! I look forward to welcoming everyone on campus for the first day of the 2015-16 school year on August 12th.
Between now andAugust 12th we have quite a few exciting events taking place! Please be sure to mark your calendars and attend any and all events that pertain to your family!
August 6th 6:00PM – 7:30PM
Pebblewood Campus Orientation with Reception to follow. You won’t want to miss this event! This event is for all families attending our Pebblewood Campus. This brief orientation will introduce educators and leaders from our campus as well as deliver materials and information that will help ensure a successful year. Students in 6th – 8th grades will select electives at this event and 5th Grade parents will meet key staff members and take a virtual tour of the school. After the orientation, please stay for a reception organized by our amazing WAVE parent team. All students and parents are invited to attend.
August 8th – 12:00PM – 3:00PM
All School Event: WAVE FAMILY BBQ
Our WAVE Parent team is pulling out all the stops for this whole school family BBQ. Click Here to RSVP and sign up to bring a dish for the pot luck, or just show up and enjoy the event. We’ll have music, bounce houses, families and food – a perfect way to end the summer. The picnic will be held at the Valley Oaks Park, adjacent to the future Westlake Campus.
August 11th – 2:30PM to 3:30PM
Meet the Teacher at Pebblewood Campus
Come by and meet your teacher(s) the day before school starts. This is an opportunity to walk the classroom(s) and see the amazing environment(s) that your student will enter on the first day of school. Class lists will be posted at this event.
August 12th – 7:45AM- 12:30PM
First day of School! It is a Wednesday Early out schedule, so our day will begin at 7:45AM and dismiss at 12:30PM. Students can arrive as early as 7:30AM for breakfast.
Going Googley at Westlake Charter in 2015/16
As your principal I am very excited to announce that this year Westlake Charter has invested in enough Chromebook computers to ensure that each of our classroom teachers will have a full set of computers for their classroom from 2nd Grade through 8th Grade. Our amazing teachers will use this technology to help personalize education for each of our students. Westlake has designed a program that meets the technology demands of the Common Core, however our school is committed to exceeding these standards by implementing an amazing set of resources to teach our students about Digital Citizenship and Internet Safety. We would like to invite all our parents out to learn about Google Chromebooks at our Parent Google in Education Learning Night. At each of these learning nights, we will help parents navigate the Google platform and learn how to best assist their student.

Back to School Packets are being mailed home this week! Please complete the packet and bring it with you to the Meet the Teacher Event on August 11th. Packets that are not returned at the Meet the Teacher event must be returned on the first day of school! We are hoping for 100% of our packets to be turned in before school begins!
